Part of caring for your pets is understanding what to protect them from. Keep your pets safe with Dr Wendy’s Mobile Vet Care’s dog and cat allergy testing services.
Allergies affect a range of people and pets alike. Some pets aren’t affected by anything all while others die from an encounter with something that they’re allergic to.
So it’s important to get them checked in a controlled environment.
Dr Wendy’s Mobile Vet Care will bring the doctor’s office to you! Thanks to our commercial vehicles, we have all the necessary testing kits, and treatments needed to protect your pet from their allergies.
What are the types of allergies cats and dogs can have?
The most common types of allergies in pets are flea allergy, food allergy, and a condition called atopy. Atopy occurs when allergens are inhaled, or come in contact with the skin – leading to an allergic reaction.
There are a wide variety of pollens, grasses, dander, insect proteins, molds, and even house dust can cause animals to develop atopy.
And your pet might experience allergic reactions until they are no longer in contact with the source.
We provide two main allergy testing approaches for your cat, and dog.
First is the Intradermal skin testing method. First, we’ll shave your pet – usually on the abdomen. Then, using tiny needles we will gently inject a variety of allergens (in a small dose) into the skin in order to see if there is a reaction.
Afterwards, we’ll check to assess the degree of allergic response that your pet has to the allergens. The outcome of the reaction will determine how dangerous a particular allergen will be and to what degree.
Pets are monitored carefully during the procedure in case a serious reaction occurs and treatment is required.
Another option is Serum allergy testing. With Serum allergy testing, our mobile vet will take a small sample of blood from your pet. We’ll then run some tests in our lab in order to discover the various allergies that they may have.
Similarly, we’ll know which allergens cause a severe reaction, and which cause a mild reaction.
In the instance of a severe allergy, we’ll provide you with an affordable solution that is sustainable, and that will protect your pet.
There are a variety of allergy medications and treatments available. You can trust our mobile vet to make the right decision for your pet.
Ultimately, you want to do what’s best for your pet, and so do we!
